POLAND — Voters endorsed a $6.63 million municipal budget and imposed a moratorium on the retail sale of recreational marijuana during the town’s annual meeting Saturday.
The session drew 124 voters – a tiny fraction of the thousands eligible to participate – and lasted a couple of hours at the Poland Regional High School auditorium.
The meeting followed a townwide election Friday that attracted 319 voters.
The marijuana moratorium delays the creation of any marijuana stores, retail marijuana cultivation facilities, retail marijuana products manufacturing facilities and retail marijuana testing facilities in town for at least another six months while officials in Augusta struggle to enact regulations related to the 2016 referendum that approved recreational marijuana in Maine.
